Would I be the one?

I might be one of few who actually works late plus sorts through piles of paper because I want to, while intermittently listens to cspan, fox news live, and a few tunes in between. And in listening to a new Congressman in DC, I heard his heart of respect, and fresh resolve to honor the hollowed ground of history and decisions, his new responsibility and experience, and the place he will now hold in history. I respect and appreciate his intentions and resolve, very evident it comes from the heart. With one breath I hope for him the best, that he will walk away from that experience not loosing his integrity. With the next breath I can’t help but put myself in his shoes and I wonder: Would I be “the one”?

Would I be “the one” who would go to DC, or a central hub of power, with promises to be different from all the leaders before, to be a people’s politician, to be a leader of integrity and humility and then change?

Would I then be “the one” who, once settled in, allows the political power, routine and rhythm to enshroud me?

Would I then be “the one” under a hot moment of pressure, to compromise? And then try to justify in the next moment my decision for those who were holding me accountable?

Would I then be “the one” who would forget why I was there and embrace the age old “entitlement” mindset that I - more than millions others - deserve that seat of influence?

Would I then be “the one”, with media and supporters continually crowing for sound bites, results and attention, who grows weary enough to slip up, surrender or sell out?

In this 21st century, the American people are very much skeptical and jaded of the possibility of pure intentions and maintenance of integrity when it comes to politics. It is more believable that politicians are corrupt, persuadable and weak.

We are more familiar with the weakness of humanity than we are confident in a God that is alive and cares about the affairs of men so much that He will empower us to maintain integrity, not waver on principles and treat the position with honor. We in our humanity can’t withstand the power, fame and pressure but God in us can.

I wish and pray God’s best for all the new leaders in Washington DC, and state capitols around the nation. My greatest hope for them is that they acknowledge their own humanity, before they even start this whirlwind. But also that they would embrace God and His power within, to help them be leaders of integrity, honesty and humility. Even if all others around them falter, I hope that they will be one who will go home the same person who came in.

May our confidence as leaders always and forever be in The One and Only Perfect Leader. Without Him, I would definitely be "the one".

A Brief Yet Powerful Revelation

I was 25 when it finally hit me. My pure existence was a miracle. I was (am!) a part of a generation that was not meant to exist.

I don’t think the world has any idea to truth of that statement.

I feel like John the Baptist as I sound that crying alarm to my world. It is uttered very desperately and passionately from my lips, beseeching someone to listen and do something to save this generation.

Which Way Will You Take?

Why is it easier to promise than to act?

We say we give up when we hold on. We say we love when we really hate. We say we’ll follow when we only want our way.  We say we surrender when we exalt only ourselves.

To speak our promises and live them out is two different things. To confess and yet to bow down has two different price tags. To only confess "I will follow" and to actually put your hopes, dreams, emotions, will and desire on the altar – look two different ways.

The price is high, the road is hard, the impossible task is possible. But, will you surrender? Will you truly take your will and submit it before the Almighty God? Not for how it looks to you, but for what He’s called you toward?

If we say He’s Lord – but don’t allow Him the complete control – He is just second in command.

Is it His word or yours? Is it His way or your own? Is it His Infinite wisdom above the clatter of your own desire? Is it His priorities or yours? Are you adamant that your way is best or will you release your biggest dreams, your greatest hopes, your most powerful desires to the One who created each breath you take?

And will we trust Him that He will take our minuscule dreams – that seem necessary for life in our eyes – and replace them with attainable jewels that take our breath away and make our “old” dreams seem like filthy rags?

Will you trust Him? No. I mean will you really trust Him? Will you throw up your hands, throw back your head, let go, release your foothold and your iron-tight grip and fall completely into the Arms of the One who knows your future better than you know your yesterday?

Will you trust Him? Will you really truly 100% surrender and trust Him – and trust that He will make your end story better than you ever imagined? Will you lose your life, your way, your desires, your plans, your dreams, your hopes, your cause, your purpose – throw your hands up and say, “God I want nothing less than your best – in whatever form, in whatever way. Your plans are higher than mine – and I surrender completely to you.”

To surrender is to give up – to surrender to the One who knows all is to make the wisest and most exciting decision we could ever imagine!

To keep our life means we’ll lose it but to lose it to the One Who really matters means we’ll gain the whole world. And in the end we will see that the momentary impossible actions of letting go of that certain thing will be the best choice we ever could have made. It might be the very thing that leads us to our destiny.
